Paralyzed by Choice!!

COLOSSIANS 1:18

I heard a preacher a while back talking about people he knew who had been paralyzed.  One story he told was of a young man paralyzed from the neck down.  He said the young man laid there while his wife got a mercy divorce and couldn't move anything.  His head (his mind) was screaming for his legs to move, his hands and fingers to move, for sound to come out of his mouth and nothing would work.
He related this story to Jesus Christ being the head and the church being the body.
He said the head is screaming for the legs to move, the hands to move, the mouth to speak but nothing is happening because the church just like this young man's body is paralyzed.
How right he is!
We are paralyzed
Some of us by fear, fear of being misunderstood, fear of being rejected etc.
  • Some of us are paralyzed by insecurity, feeling like no one will listen, or worse yet, they will ridicule us.
  • Some of us are paralyzed simply by not caring.  That may sound harsh and we may think that isn't true, but as the old saying goes, actions speak louder than words.

If we are not going out and spreading the gospel and fishing for men, then we must not care about them or their souls. We are paralyzed while they are dying.
It took working his muscles daily for this young man to recover and according to the preacher, he did recover and even preaches some.
The body needs to work daily to listen and obey the commands of the head.  Jesus is the head and He is crying out for us to move.
We have become like the idols in Psalms 115:5-7
5They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but they cannot see;
6they have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but they cannot smell;
7they have hands, but cannot feel, feet, but they cannot walk;nor can they utter a sound with their throats.

Except we have a choice, we are not inanimate objects.  We have the choice to witness or not.  To spread the gospel or not.  we are paralyzed by choice!
